Taiwan City Metro Passes 2026: Taipei 24/48/72h, Airport Joints, Kaohsiung + Fun Pass

TL;DR: Fewer than 4 MRT rides a day in Taipei? Skip the passes and tap EasyCard. Multi-city + sights → Taiwan PASS (separate guide). Deep single-city days → pick from below.

1. Taipei Metro tourist passes (Taipei Metro + Circular Line)

Where: any MRT information counter; One-Day also at multi-payment machines (Taipei Main, Zhongshan, Ximen, Banqiao, Tamsui, Songshan Airport, Taipei 101, etc.). Activate whenever you like; unactivated passes never expire and are refundable; one passenger only. Single fares run NT$20–65, so a NT$150 day pass needs ~5–6 rides to break even.

Bonus: any tourist pass or Airport joint ticket comes with "Enjoy Taipei Anytime" shop coupons (Maokong, Yongkang St. etc. — see TRTC site).

2. Airport MRT + Taipei Metro joint tickets (best airport combo)

Where: Klook, KKday, Trip.com, Gojet; redeem within 6 months of issue. Scan QR at MRT gates; Light Rail needs no scan — show QR to inspectors. Partial days count full; valid until end of service on day 2 (e.g. activate Jun 1 13:00 → valid till last train Jun 2; a 00:15 activation counts as the previous operating day — mind your timing).

4. Taichung MRT travel passes

Taichung MRT 1-day, 24-hour and 48-hour travel passes are sold via KKday/Klook — prices per live listings; confirm activation method (QR vs physical) and validity before ordering.

5. Taipei Fun Pass (sights + transport bundles)

Bundling Maokong Gondola, Tamsui, Palace Museum entries with transport? Consider Fun Pass Taipei + New Taipei 2-day transport cards, redeemable at Taoyuan T1/T2 arrival halls (Lion Travel, HiPower) and Taipei Main store. For sight-packed days without per-ride tickets; pure transport needs are covered above.

Can two people share one pass?

No. One passenger only; gates track entry/exit — sharing locks the card or counts as fare evasion.

Refunds for unused passes?

Taipei Metro: refundable if unactivated (no expiry). Airport joints: set-only refund, NT$20 fee. QR passes (Kaohsiung): redeem within 6 months, no refund after activation.

EasyCard or tourist pass?

Under 4 rides/day → EasyCard (with transfer discounts). 5+ rides or long cross-town hops → pass wins.

Airport MRT round-trip alone?

Do I scan QR on the Light Rail?
