Why take the boat
Sandbar peninsula outside Kaohsiung Harbor: old street, seafood, fort, lighthouse and rainbow church on one line. The ferry is sightseeing: big ships entering port + 85 Tower skyline from the deck.
How to loop (clockwise)
- Gushan Ferry: EasyCard tap, ~5 min to Cijin, tens of NT dollars each way (per notices).
- Rent a bike: rows by the pier; flat coastal lane.
- Old street + Tianhou Temple: grilled squid, tempura, tomato platter with dip. Famous seafood lunch spots queue.
- Cihou Fort + lighthouse + Star Tunnel + Rainbow Church: harbor views from the heights, white spiral stairs for photos.
Access & time needed
- 10-min walk from MRT Sizihwan to Gushan Ferry. Stay half a day with lunch.
- Pair with Pier2, Consulate and Sizihwan sunset for a sea day.
Tips
- Check last ferry; holiday queues are long, rent bikes early.
- Fierce UV; sun, water, hat. Many fort steps—good shoes.
