Alishan Forest Railway
A century-old narrow-gauge train climbing through the mists. One of the world's engineering marvels.
Originally built by the Japanese to log cypress trees, this train zigs and zags (switchbacks) up the mountain from Chiayi to 2200m. The red train passing through the green forest is the defining image of Taiwan tourism.
