You don’t need to spend a fortune to eat like a king. From duck rice to beef noodles, here are the Bib Gourmand spots you must try.

The Michelin Guide is not just for expensive French cuisine or kaiseki. In Taiwan, Michelin inspectors have ventured deep into every street and alley to unearth delicious foods that locals have been eating for decades. These restaurants are usually affordable, the settings are simple, but the flavors are absolutely world-class.

This time, we've handpicked several Michelin Bib Gourmand and selected restaurants in Taipei and New Taipei City, so you can enjoy star-quality flavors at pocket-change prices.

1. Jhen Pin (珍平) – The Duck Legend of Xinzhuang

Michelin Bib Gourmand

If you think duck can only be eaten one way—roasted—then you absolutely must try Jhen Pin. This restaurant is located near Xinzhuang Sports Park, and while it has a low-key storefront, its skills are not to be underestimated.

Must-Order Items

  • Duck Rice (Braised Duck on Rice): This is absolutely the soul of this place. The aroma of fried shallots combined with chopped duck meat is savory and addictive.
  • Stir-Fried Duck Thick Soup (Sheng Chao Ya Rou Geng): The broth has a distinctive smoky aroma, and every sip is full of layered flavors.
  • Native Duck Sliced Platter: Uses Southern Taiwan's free-range native ducks, raised for 80 to 85 days. The meat is soft, tender, and juicy—absolutely not dry.

Real User Insights Locals all recommend the duck rice and stir-fried duck thick soup here. The price is affordable and authentic—the best choice for experiencing Taiwan's local duck cuisine.

  • Address: No. 97, Section 1, Fuxing Road, Xinzhuang District, New Taipei City

2. Lai Kang Shan Goat Meat (賴岡山羊肉) – Xindian's Top Supper Choice

Michelin Bib Gourmand

Fragrant for over 20 years, this small shop is synonymous with goat soup in the Xindian area. The goat soup here is of the nourishing and warming variety, with a sweet broth—the best choice for warming the stomach.

Must-Order Items

  • Skin-On Goat Meat Soup: Uses Australian young lambs; excess fat is removed and then slow-braised with Angelica root (Dang Gui). The skin-on goat meat is chewy and tender, with absolutely no gamey smell.
  • Braised Pork Rice (Lu Rou Fan): The braised pork rice here has a black-gold color, is full of collagen, and pairs perfectly with the goat soup.

Real User Insights This is the first choice for goat soup in Xindian. There's often a queue, so it's recommended to arrive early.

3. San Fen Su Chi (三分俗氣) – The Rustic Flavors of Jiangzhe Cuisine

Michelin Selected

Don't be fooled by the name—this is not a vegetarian restaurant, nor is it a tacky place. On the contrary, the interior décor is simple and full of a classical atmosphere. The restaurant specializes in Jiangzhe (Jiangsu-Zhejiang) cuisine with refined portions, suitable for a small gathering of friends.

Must-Order Items

  • Jade Stuffed Meat (Feicui Xiang Rou): This is the must-order signature dish. De-seeded jade chilies are stuffed with minced pork, deep-fried, and then stir-fried. It's savory and pairs perfectly with rice; the mildly spicy taste is very appetizing.

Real User Insights Although the name sounds like a vegetarian restaurant, the meat dishes here are excellent. The Jade Stuffed Meat is an absolutely unmissable dish.

4. Kou Gyu Rou Beef Noodles (口久牛肉麵) – Japanese-Taiwanese Flavors in a Hidden Alley

Michelin 1 Star

This is a very unique beef noodle restaurant. The chef is from Japan and has brought the artisan spirit of Japanese ramen into Taiwan's beef noodles.

Must-Order Items

  • Red-Braised Beef Noodles: Different from the traditional flavor, the broth here is seasoned with kombu, sea salt, and soy sauce, making it much lighter yet full of depth. The beef is aged with kombu, making the meat extremely tender.

Real User Insights This place offers uniquely Japanese-flavored Taiwanese beef noodles, with a kombu-bone broth that is light and not greasy. The restaurant only has 6 seats, so if you want to eat here, you need to go early.
